Backing the engine is a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed and 12-bolt rear axle with Positraction and 4.10:1 ratio gears. Herb Adams front and rear anti-sway bars work with the quick-ratio steering box and power front disc brakes for Trans Am handling to match engine performance.
You can convert your M20 or M21 to a M22. I did cause I have 4.10's and the M20 reved too high in the city, I'd be shifting into 4th sometimes, plus I wanted that screaming whine in the M22 gearbox. TimothyP New Member. Confused about what manual transmission came standard on a 1970 Camaro Z28. I assumed it was an M22 (rockcrusher), but see some ads listing an M20 or M21. Also, the Hurst shifter rod I had on my former Z28 was a straight round shaft, but I see some pictures with angled rectangular shafts.
